I use to think the worst curse my mother ever put on me was that she hoped my children would be just like me. While that was definitely sufficient punishment, I'm slowly turning into her.

In and of itself, that's not really a bad thing, but it does make you realize you're getting older. Below is a list of things that I never really understood made her upset in my youth, but now, I share these exact pet peeves.

  1. Putting The Toilet Paper Roll On Backwards - This one really bugs me and I don't know why. It's not that big of a deal and literally only takes a few seconds to fix, but if I can fix it that easily, why can't my children just put it on the right way the first time? In case you're wondering, the right way is with the paper facing outward.
  2. Pinching Toothpaste In The Middle of The Dispenser -  This is another one that drives me crazy. Although, by the time I was a teenager, I understood why. This may just be an OCD type of thing, but it's not that hard to start from the back of the dispenser. This is really more of a pain when you get near the end. Because of this, I buy my children their own, just so they don't touch mine. That backfired, because seeing theirs still irks me.
  3. Not Putting The Toilet Seat Down - As man, ladies seem to think this doesn't bother us too. Well it does (even though probably not as much), and considering I'm somewhat of a germaphobe, that's probably the biggest reason. We all know what kind of nasty lives in the toilet. I wish my male children would just put it down when their finished doing their business AND wash their hands afterwards.
  4. Not Straightening Out Corners On Rugs - Kids are often in a hurry and let's face it, just plain lazy (most of them, but not all). This is another one that's a very quick fix. Even if you're not the one that messed it up, if a rug isn't straight or a corner is flapped inward (or outward), just fix it.
  5. Putting Half Empty Beverage Containers Back In The Fridge - Whether it's milk, juice or even my filtered water container, this drives me batty. I can't lie, I do get upset when my kiddos eat and drink everything in the house, I understand that's what growing little people do. I can live with that. I can't stand them putting a swallow back in the fridge, because they're too lazy to throw it away.

This is just a few of the little things that really grind my gears and remind me I  truly am my mother's son. If you have any other good ones, please let us know in the comments. It'll will surely make me feel less like a psycho parent if I'm not the only one.
