Citing Centers for Disease Control Guidance, the City of Casper announced on Thursday that facemasks will be required on CATC busses through at least May 3.

According to a news release, masks will be required for all riders and staff. The order was set to expire on April 18 but has since been extended.

"The announcement follows a directive from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which said that it was extending the order, which was to expire on April 18, until May 3 to allow more time to study the BA.2 omicron subvariant that is now responsible for the majority of (COVID) cases in the U.S.," CATC said in a prepared statement.

CATC has required masks since March 2020.

“Given that Casper Area Transit is funded with federal dollars, we are required, as are all such transit systems nationwide, to abide by the federal masking requirements. We are committed to making sure both ASSIST and LINK continue to function in the safest possible manner," Transit Manager Scott Dresher said.

According to CATC, should masking requirements change, updates will be provided.
