Since the pandemic first hit and drastically changed life as we know it, we've all had to evolve. The way we shop, the way we play, the way we learn and even the way we work have been forever altered.

Some things have been for the better. For instance, a great deal of employers have realized that many in the workforce can do the same tasks from home.

With that in mind, personal finance website, WalletHub, conducted a new study that lists "Best States for Working from Home". In order to find out the states that provide the best conditions for working from home, WalletHub compared all fifty states and the District of Columbia across 12 key metrics.

Wyoming ranked 45th overall, putting us very close to the bottom.

Here's our ranking for two of the most important key metrics:

  • Work Environment: 48th
  • Living Environment: 42th

WalletHub shared some interesting info and statistics, such as:

During the COVID-19 pandemic, state governments ordered “non-essential” businesses to close their buildings, which led many businesses to adopt a work-from-home structure. While the country has now reopened due to the distribution of the vaccine, plenty of workplaces have kept that structure in place. In fact, around 20% of all professional jobs were remote as of the beginning of 2022.

While more and more businesses are embracing work-from-home positions, people who are allowed to work from home may not always have the best environment for doing so. The best work-from-home conditions include low costs, reasonable comfort and a high level of security.

While there is no doubt in my mind, our smaller population and limited options for high speed internet played a significant role in our low ranking, you would think our "Cowboy Up" mentality would actually give us a leg up here. I guess that wasn't one of the key metrics.

No matter what the numbers say, one thing is for sure, Wyoming is still one of the best places to live in the entire country... whether you are working from home or not.
