A man is in custody after allegedly hitting a pregnant woman.

Michael Allen Carpenter, 27, was arrested Thursday morning on charges of aggravated assault and battery and interference with a 911 call.

Court documents say Casper police officers went to a home on East M Street at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday after a woman called police and said Carpenter had hit her in the face and was trying to run off.

An officer arrived and found Carpenter walking west on East M Street, evidently trying to flag down a driver. When Carpenter saw the market police car, he allegedly tried to quickly walk away.

The officer got out of his car and talked to Carpenter, asking if he'd been at the home where the alleged assault occurred. Carpenter reportedly said he had been staying there.

Carpenter told the officer that the victim woke him up that morning and threw him out of the apartment, throwing things at him and pushing him, according to the affidavit. He also allegedly said he believed the victim has "walked into his hand," denying that he hit the victim in any way.

The officer saw a small amount of dried blood on Carpenter's left hand. He reportedly said he wasn't sure whose blood it was. The officer handcuffed Carpenter.

Later, the officer spoke with the victim, who said she suspected Carpenter of using drugs. So, she kicked him out that morning.

As the two argued, Carpenter allegedly hit the victim in her mouth. She was reportedly unsure whether it was with an open hand or a closed fist. She said her mouth began to bleed.

The victim said she tried to dial 911, but Carpenter slapped the phone out of her hands and tried to take off.

Court documents say the victim was able to get ahold of the phone again and call police.

Carpenter was booked into the Natrona County Detention Center.
