Casper Police: Make a Plan for Cinco de Mayo Festivities
The Casper Police Department urges those who celebrate Cinco de Mayo this weekend to make plans beforehand if they will be drinking, according to a news release.
"Before you start drinking, make a plan for the rest of your day,” department spokeswoman Rebekah Ladd said.
"If you’re going out to celebrate, make a plan before you leave about how you are going to get home," Ladd said. "If you stay home, take a minute to make sure you have everything you need before you start to drink so that you can avoid the need to drive somewhere later in the day.”
Casper offers low-cost transportation options such as Uber, Lyft and taxis. Coordinating with a friend who will be sober is a great option, too.
If you are intoxicated at a restaurant or bar without a plan, please ask your bartender about the "Safe Ride" program which may be able to offer you a free ride home.
According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, one third of all vehicle fatalities on Cinco de Mayo are drunk-driving related.
If you suspect someone is driving drunk please call 911.
