Dear Casper: Please Stop Calling People Via Facebook Messenger
We've established previously that I have issues when it comes to social media habits that I deem substandard (in case you missed it, I strongly urged Casperites to stop forwarding chain letters). Another major bugaboo though is making phone calls via Facebook Messenger.
For the most part, using Facebook Messenger for phone calls is unacceptable. Like most things, there are a few exceptions:
- Video Chat
- You Don't Have My Phone Number
- You Don't Have Minutes, But You Have An Internet/WiFi Connection
- You're Using A Tablet/iPad/Computer
Why does this bother me so, you ask? For one, the connection is almost always subpar. Nine times out of ten, someone is calling you from a smartphone anyway when they're using the app, so why not just use the phone feature anyway? Phone is the keyword in the term smartphone!
Again, there are exceptions (listed above), but it still bugs me. It probably shouldn't, but it does. Even in the case of Video Chat, there are far better options (Skype, FaceTime, WhatsApp, etc.).
I know I'm not alone. Several people have shared their distaste of the Messenger call. Feel free to sound off in the comment section on your stance.
