Admittedly, as a Wyoming runner, writing this article brought me joy.

StudyFinds.org released an article that states that "any amount of running significantly lowers one’s risk of death from any cause."

I'm sure that it's really no surprise to you that running is good for you, most of us are well aware that being active has many health benefits.

Running specifically has a multitude of ways that it can improve your overall health.

  • helps to build strong bones, as it is a weight-bearing exercise
  • strengthens muscles
  • improves cardiovascular fitness
  • burns plenty of calories
  • helps maintain a healthy weight.

What makes me extra excited about this new study is the fact that these health benefits (including a longer life expectancy) have nothing to do with how hard or far you run or even how often you run.

What?!

It's true.

Researchers determined that any amount of running was associated with a 27% lower risk of death from all causes, in comparison to participants who reported never running. Even “small” doses of running, defined as going out for a jog just once every one to two weeks for less than 50 minutes, at a slow average speed of less than 6 miles per hour, were still found to induce significant health and longevity perks.

So, if you're thinking about New Year's Resolutions that have to do with improving your health, know that a little bit can go a long way.

You don't have to commit to running a half marathon (though I would totally encourage you to do it if you want to). Simply committing to a slow jog or a short run once a week can create big change in your life...and I bet once you start you'll be surprised at how much you love it.
