As the weather does start to change we think about seasonal enjoyments closing up. Yellowstone National Park for the most part does pretty much shut down for the winter between late October and April, but there are areas and things open all year.

Yellowstone is also a big snowmobile destination for visitors and locals.

According to the national parks website:

  • Most park roads are CLOSED to auto travel between early November and late April.
  • The road from the North Entrance at Gardiner, Montana, through the park to Cooke City, Montana, via Tower Junction is open twenty-four hours a day, all year to auto travel.
  • U.S. Highway 212 is closed to auto travel just east of Cooke City from late fall to late spring.
  • Recorded phone report at (307) 344-2117

Mammoth General Store is normally open year-round; closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day as well as the Mammoth Clinic.

Be prepared to see some wildlife while hanging in the winter in Yellowstone.
