Three Casper schools were briefly placed on lockout early Friday after a report of a suspicious person.

The Natrona County School District says Casper police were alerted to a suspicious person in the area, prompting the lockout at CY Middle School, Roosevelt High School and Pathways Innovation Center.

"In a proactive response to student, staff and community safety Casper Police Department immediately responded and determined there is no threat to students, staff, or the community," a release from the district says.

Normal school operations have resumed.

A lockout involves staff recovering all students from outside the building, securing the building perimeter and locking all exterior doors. As opposed to a lockdown -- which requires locking classroom doors, turning off lights and getting students out of sight -- a lockout allows teaching to continue.
