Casper Pride Guide Shares Important Suicide Prevention Resources for the Queer Community
It's a sobering statistic: LGBTQ+ people are up to four times more likely to experience suicidal thoughts.
But whether you are a member of the Natrona County Queer community or an ally, there are supportive, affirmative resources available. If you are thinking about suicide, call 800-273-TALK (8255) or text WYO to 741741 to speak with someone now.
If you or a loved one are struggling with self-harm, anxiety, negative thoughts, or other potential mental health issues, the new Casper Pride Guide can help you find the health providers and resources you need. This new online hub is dedicated to connecting the LGBTQ+ community with all types of health providers, as well as with community projects, social events, and more.
They offer several layers of help with mental health issues. For example, you can find local counselors, but you also can learn about The Trevor Project, which is dedicated to helping Queer youth with everything from exploring gender identity to connecting to trained counselors to meeting new LGBTQ+ friends their own age. To learn more, text "START" to 678-678 or call 866-488-7386.
They also reference Seize the Awkward. This website helps readers learn the warning signs for mental health issues and how to start conversations about mental health — and we all know those can feel a little awkward but are important for improving situations that otherwise may seem bleak, lonely, or hopeless.
It all starts online at casperprideguide.com/health-guide/suicide-resources.
