The post-Avengers: Endgame Marvel Cinematic Universe is still mostly unclear, but Deadline brings some new details about one of the projects that is officially confirmed, the Falcon & Winter Soldier miniseries coming to Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+. In addition to the two title characters, two more well-established Marvel Cinematic Universe characters will join the cast:

Kari Skogland has been set to direct the six-part Disney+ miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with Avengers: Endgame‘s Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan starring. Sources said Captain America: Civil War‘s Daniel Bruhl and Emily Van Camp are also in talks to join.

Daniel Bruhl played Civil War’s villain, Helmut Zero, a vengeful man manipulating the heroes into fighting one another to exact his mysterious goals. At the end of the film he was captured by Black Panther. Van Camp appeared in several MCU films as Sharon Carter, the niece of Captain America’s true love, Peggy Carter. In Marvel Comics, Sharon becomes Cap’s longtime girlfriend; Peggy herself never loomed quite as large in the comics as she does in the films and shows. With no future with Steve Rogers in sight for Sharon, this is an interesting way to make use of a very good Marvel character who might otherwise have faded way.

Skogland is a longtime TV director who’s worked on series like The Walking DeadHouse of CardsThe Handmaid’s Tale, and — perhaps most importantly to this discussion — Netflix’s The PunisherFalcon & Winter Soldier is expected to premiere on Disney+ in August of 2020. The Disney+ service itself launches this fall.
