Navy Working On Banning The Sell Of Tobacco On Bases & Ships [POLL]

The United States Navy is currently considering a ban on the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products at Navy and Marine Corps exchange stores, both home and abroad. This would not only affect U.S. bases, but ships and ports as well.

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus met with his staff last week and asked them to examine the impact of ending the sale of tobacco on base. This intuitive is in part to improve the culture of fitness in the different branches of service. Mabus has already halted price subsidies for tobacco products on bases, but his staff said banning all products is still "in the early stages of this process."

Even with all the speculation concerning this audacious concept, one defense official said this new policy could be implemented as early as October 1st, 2014.

As a past smoker (who started smoking while enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps), I think this is a bold action that needs to take place. We want the men and woman protecting our great nation in the best possible shape and this shows the changing of the times. I actually started smoking to get a 5 minute break while "humping" mountains with over 60 lbs of gear. A decision I regret daily.
