It seems as though at the start of every single new year we all want to lose weight, eat better, possibly learn a new skill that we've been putting off since high school. Then why is it that year after year we haven't done what we said we were going to do and we still haven't learned that pesky new skill?

I mean to put it simply, life gets in the way and often doesn't allow us the free time we were going to set aside to go after those lofty goals. Or more accurately we live in Wyoming and sometimes the weather has a pretty big impact on those resolutions that we had our eye on.

Luckily for you, I've got some guidelines that could help you have a more successful year in 2019.

1. Make it the first thing you do every day or make it the last thing you do before going to bed. (Setting reminds is a good idea too.)

2. This one has always been a personal favorite. Tell everyone in your social circle about your new years' resolution. This not only keeps you accountable but it reminds you that your friends will be keeping you honest on that next lunch get together.

3. For me, this system always seems to work. (For multiple aspects of my life.) Start with small/easy to accomplish resolutions. That way you get the feeling of accomplishment and that you've actually made a difference without totally overhauling your life.

4. Have a plan before going all in on how to make that resolution come true. Going in without a plan can lead to failure. Just make sure you are prepared.

5. Last on my list if you don't have to wait until 2020 to make a change. If you want to see your life head in a different direction in 6 months then make a plan and find a list of things that you'd like to see change and go after them. Whether it's one thing at a time or several, you are in control of the change for 2019.
