Video games are big business. The console wars try to lure gamers to pick a side; however, the trends change over the years. The Connection compiled data from each state to see which console was the most popular by internet searches.

As far as the Cowboy State, the story may not be as you would expect. Prior and after the launch of the Xbox 360, Microsoft had the most attention from Wyomingites in 2005 and 2006. The Nintendo Wii then dominated the next four years. Possibly because of the family-friendly appeal, Nintendo was the most popular over the years according to the data collected.

The Xbox One took the spotlight in 2012 before its debut, but then the Wii arose the following year. The Sony PlayStation 4 got some notoriety in 2014 a year after its launch. The subsequent years is a revolving door in the top spot with Xbox One in 2015, and the popularity of the Wii continuing 2016.

On a separate note, the Nintendo Wii U did not make an impact across the country. There was a slight uptick in Utah, but the nation by far overlooked this gaming system. The Nintendo Switch launched in 2017, so data for that console has yet to be collected.
