In a surprising announcement, redshirt sophomore guard Trey Washington III has left the Wyoming Cowboy basketball team.

Wyoming head coach Larry Shyatt released the news Thursday afternoon.

Washington III appeared in 26 games this season with five starts and was playing about 19 minutes per game. He was averaging 2.8 points and 2 rebounds per contest. Washington III had dished out 32 assists with only 18 turnovers. He was shooting 31 percent from the field and 23 from beyond the arc.

It was stated that Washington III left for personal reasons, and that coach Shyatt would not have any further comments.

The Cowboys return to action at Colorado State Saturday at 2 p.m.
