Cowboys Will Play Hoops in Torrington
The Wyoming Cowboys basketball season will begin in Torrington this November with an exhibition game against Chadron State.
The outreach event versus the Division II Eagles will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 at Eastern Wyoming College’s Petsch Activities Center.
This is a homecoming for Wyoming senior Jason McManamen, who had a breakout season in 2015-16 for the Pokes. McManamen shot a team-high 44 percent from 3-point range. That led the Mountain West Conference and ranked 15th in the nation. His 2.9 threes per game was second in the MW and 27th nationally. McManamen made 92 from beyond the arc which is good for third-best in Cowboy basketball single-season history. He averaged 14.4 points per game last season and scored 20-or-more in four of the final eight games.
Wyoming head coach Allen Edwards said, “We view this as not just a chance to give back to the McManamen family, but an opportunity to give back to all our great fans in the Torrington area.”
McManamen was a three-time all-state and all-conference honoree at Torrington High School. He led the Trailblazers to two state titles and a third-place finish during that stretch. McManamen was the 2011-12 Gatorade Player of the Year for Wyoming after averaging 19.3 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
“It really means a lot to me to go back to Torrington where my career started and play in my hometown,” said McManamen. “I’m excited to play in front of all the people that supported me throughout my high school career and still support me. I think going back shows that no matter where you are from; if you work hard and love what you do you can accomplish anything you want.”
Ticket information for the game will be released at a later date.
