Over five acres of private land burned north of Casper on Saturday night, but crews were able to extinguish the fire with no damage to buildings or infrastructure.

Robert Hoover, chief of the volunteer Bar Nunn Fire Department, told K2 Radio News that the blaze was reported shortly after 8:30 p.m. some seven miles east of I-25 on Ormsby Road, and north of the road.

Three Bar Nunn fire units assisted one Natrona County unit as well as two units from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

Once on scene, it took fire crews roughly 25-30 minutes to contain the blaze. It was later completely extinguished.

Hoover said the fire was evidently caused by lightning. Thunderstorms moved through the area with numerous lightning strikes Saturday afternoon and evening.

No injuries or property damage was reported in connection with the fire. No structures were threatened.
