The Town of Mills will hold a forum Thursday about the lawsuit it filed against the Natrona County School District regarding the closures of Mountain View and Mills Elementary schools, according to a news release Tuesday.

The town filed the lawsuit in Natrona County District Court on Jan. 17 to determine the legality of closing and abandoning these schools because the school district failed to comply with its legal obligation to report to the state about abandoning Mountain View Elementary School.

On Oct. 24, the school district's board of trustees voted to close Mountain View and three other schools.

"Mills asserts that the NCSD No. 1 has violated the equal protection provisions of the Wyoming Constitution which treats education as a fundamental right, by removing all schools within the Town boundaries and limiting children’s access to schools within reasonable proximity to their residences," according to the news release.
The school district has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
The Town of Mills responded with a motion to keep the lawsuit active.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Thursday at  the Town Hall, 704 Fourth St. Town officials will listen to comments, answer questions, and gather signatures for those who wish to join the lawsuit.

Those who wish to join the lawsuit, but are unable to attend the meeting, may contact Town Clerk Christine Trumbull at (307) 234-6679.
