Just in case you haven't heard enough insane conspiracy theories this week, here's one to top them all. There's a new claim that North Korea plans to nuke Yellowstone in an attempt to cause the supervolcano to erupt.

The Sun shared this whopper of a story this week. I think the original story goes all the way back to 2017. I'll give you the Cliff Notes version of what it says:

  1. North Korea has a hydrogen bomb
  2. They think it would be swell if the Yellowstone supervolcano erupted
  3. North Korea wants to know what kind of explosion would cause the volcano to go nuts
  4. The guy that predicted it has been wrong before

That last one is key. The dude's name is David Meade. According to Wikipedia, he has twice previously predicted a world-ending event incorrectly. He's not the first person to wonder what would happen if a nuke was detonated in Yellowstone. Here's exhibit A:

If the video theory is correct, you'd need to get the bomb into the magma chamber to have any possible eruption effect. Good luck with that.

I will add a disclaimer. If you see anyone that resembles Kim Jong-un digging in Yellowstone, might want to alert a park ranger.
