Amazon Could Inhabit Empty Sears, Kmart Locations Nationwide
The online shopping giant may be ready to pounce on these vacant buildings.
Amazon is a company who describes themselves as "online shopping from the earth's biggest selection of books, magazine, music, DVDs, videos, electronics, computers..." (you get the point). Despite that description, Amazon is sure doing a lot of things offline. In fact, the company has several retail locations across the nation.
That's not even including their (fairly) newly-acquired Whole Foods partner.
And according to Yahoo Finance, they could be expanding that operation. Amazon and Whole Foods are reportedly looking into vacant buildings across the nation to set up more Whole Foods stores. Right now, the biggest treasure trove are those spaces that once housed Sears or Kmart. With many of these stores across the nation closing after a bankruptcy filing from their parent company, Amazon is starting to see dollar signs.
As it sits now, nothing has been confirmed.
Whole Foods currently has 430 locations across the country. According to Yahoo, that's a far cry from their competitors like Walmart and Kroger. It's been a year and a half since Amazon acquired Whole Foods and it appears there is not enough money to make this move. It makes complete sense to take a former store location and turn it into another store location. The space is surely large enough and after a few alterations and refrigeration hookups, they should be good to go, right?
This would definitely give Whole Food and whole new reach nationwide.
