Beginning today, the City of Casper is implementing closures on East Second Street in order to facilitate a sanitary sewer main replacement project.

Closures are expected to remain in place through Saturday evening, according to a statement from the city manager's office.

On Thursday, the westbound lanes will be reduced down to one lane as maintenance work approaches a manhole on Wilson Street, one block east of Wyoming Medical Center.

Friday and Saturday, East Second Street will be closed to all traffic at Wilson Street. Traffic will be detoured to First Street, but drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes and avoid the area for the weekend.

Conwell Street will be the turning point for eastbound traffic and Fenway Street will be the turning point for westbound traffic Friday and Saturday.

Scott Baxter, the project engineer, says all lanes are expected to open no later than Saturday evening and the sewer trench will be established with either crushed gravel base or asphalt.

"This temporary surface will serve for approximately two weeks until concrete is replaced in sections with certain lane closures," Baxter said. "Businesses and homes will still have access, but may experience short delays getting in and out of their driveways."
