Actor Leslie Jordan confirmed a few days ago that a Will & Grace revival would be headed to television in 2017 for a ten-episode run. But actress Debra Messing flat out denied his claims on Twitter yesterday (January 2), effectively eviscerating the hopes and dreams of Will & Grace fanatics everywhere.

The Smash actress responded to a user who asked whether the news was true, writing, “Sadly Leslie was wrong. Nothing beyond talks.”

Rumors that a Will & Grace revival was in the works began in late 2016, when the core cast — including Messing, Megan Mullally, Eric McCormack and Sean Hayes — reunited for an election-themed clip, igniting a desire for a full-season run.

“The response has been very overwhelming and really, really heartwarming,” Messing told PEOPLE, shortly after the reunion clip premiered.

“If there was a Will & Grace 2.0, my wish is that we did 10 [episodes] on, like, Netflix or Amazon or somewhere where it could be the naughty version of Will & Grace,” she continued. “Because you know we were on network television and there were certain lines of common storytelling that we were limited to so it would be fun to kind of go into that world where nothing is held back.”

Still, Messing's reply isn't entirely hopeless, and other cast members have expressed an interest in reviving their beloved characters in the past.

Mullally — who played Karen Walker on the show — further encouraged the rumblings of a possible revival when she spoke about it during an interview with Pride Life, weeks later.

"All I can say is that there is a very good chance that that might happen,” she told the publication. “It’s not happening right this second. I mean, we’re not rehearsing or anything like that. But there is a very good chance that something is going to materialize.”

“So speaking theoretically, in a completely made-up world where Will & Grace is coming back to NBC for 10 episodes — just in that made-up world — it couldn’t be a better time,” she continued. “I think more so now than even when we started! And who would have ever — I mean, it’s heinous that it’s because Donald Trump is the president-elect.”
