Wyoming Success Story – From Roller Skate Rentals To Empire
“In 1928, 20-year-old Reuel Call opened a two-pump gas station in Afton, Wyoming, with money he earned from renting roller skates. The business soon grew.”
Maverik has grown to more than 270 locations across 10 western states, making it the largest independent fuel marketer in the Intermountain West.
Maverik fuels vehicles and people and I stopped by their newest location, number 557, 1706 S Greeley Hwy in Cheyenne that opened in January.
I only needed gas but inside the convenience store Jennifer was enjoying her pizza and she told me that the BonFire food near the rear was really good. I talked with a truck driver from South Dakota who was just picking up a fresh burrito and he actually raved about it. I figured the least I could do would be to give one taco a try for $2.49.
Sadie whipped up a steak taco that was good, especially for convenience store food.
The staff was great, the store well laid out, clean, well-stocked and looked better than most gas stations. We all need fuel, don’t usually think about the business. Congratulations Reuel, taking care of a mobile nation and providing lots of jobs. In an economy that has been seeing more closings than openings, that's great news.
