State, Local Leaders Speak at Grand Opening of Casper’s David Street Station [VIDEO]
The Casper community came together Wednesday afternoon to welcome state and local leaders at the grand opening of David Street Station and the dedication of the Brian Scott Gamroth Community Stage.
"I think it is another confirmation that this community, that's sort of in the middle of the state, when it needs something done, it gets it done," Governor Matt Mead said from the stage.
"Some of our border towns, they go outside occasionally -- but Casper does it themselves, and I think that's such an incredible thing," Mead continued.
David Street Station has been years in the making as a centerpiece of the Casper community. The first phase, complete as of Wednesday, features the stage, synthetic turf lawn and integrated vendor areas. Festivals, concerts, markets, outdoor movies, classes and other community events will fill the space with people of all ages and backgrounds.
"It's a perfect place, perfect stage to honor somebody who was such a gift to our community -- Brian Scott," Mayor Kenyne Humphrey said after Wednesday's ribbon-cutting ceremony. "It's truly the perfect thing for our community at this point."
"Brian Scott Gamroth lived only a few blocks from here. He loved downtown," Bob Price, General Manager of Townsquare Media Casper told the crowd on Wednesday.
"Brian, as most of you know, was the point person for the fundraising, and when things got a little sparse, our CEO Kevin Hawley would naturally ask, 'How are we doing?'" Price continued. "And Brian would reply -- 'Don't worry. Casper always finds a way.'"
For 23 years, Brian Scott Gamroth hosted the morning show on K2 Radio. He also gave generously of his time to raise money for charities and nonprofits all across the state.
"Unfortunately, he passed before seeing its completion," Price told the crowd. "This stage signifies the dedication Brian had -- not only to this project, but to his family, friends, community and state."
"This stage shall also serve as a platform for future generations to uphold his legacy by bringing together the state's citizens and creating change for the common good. And so it is, we find ourselves right here on the Brian Scott Gamroth Community Stage," Price concluded.
