UPDATE (1:30 p.m. Thursday)

I-80 and the other highways mentioned in the original version of this story have now reopened.

UPDATE (7:16 p.m.)

A number of other highways have closed as a winter storm moves across Wyoming, and WYDOT had announced an estimated opening time for hundreds of miles of closed interstate highway.

I-80 between Laramie and Rock Springs, which is closed in both directions, is expected to reopen in 16-18 hours, according to WYDOT.

Newly closed sections of highway include US 287/WY 789 between Rawlins and the WY 28 junction, WY 220 between Muddy Gap and WY 487, US 30/287 between Bosler and Walcott Junction, and WY 430 between Rock Springs and the Colorado border.

Of those, the only highway with an estimated reopening time is US 30/287 which, like I-80, should reopen within 16-18 hours, according to WYDOT.

UPDATE (5:15 p.m.)

All lanes of I-80 are now closed between Laramie and Rock Springs. WYDOT has not provided an estimated time for the road to reopen.

Original Story:

A significant portion of Interstate 80 in southern Wyoming was closed Wednesday afternoon due to winter weather and vehicle crashes.

As of 4:25 p.m., all lanes of I-80 were closed between Rawlins and Rock Springs with no estimated reopening time.

Meanwhile, the westbound lanes of I-80 were closed between Rawlins and Laramie. Again, WYDOT provided no estimated time for the roadway to reopen.

The closed segments are in an area covered by a winter storm warning or winter weather advisory. Rawlins is expected to see two to four inches of snow accumulation Wednesday and another one to three inches of snow Wednesday night.
