Many of us are fortunate to have time off over the Holidays to spend time with family and friends, but there are many folks who aren't as lucky. As you enjoy your festivities and activities, please take a moment to remember those who are working or on call over the Holiday weekends of Christmas and New Years, whether for our safety or our convenience. Even a smile and thank you can go a long way. A plate of cookies wouldn't hurt, either.

Here are some of the people to remember, please feel free to add more in the comments.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all, may your time be safe and blessed.

  • Law Enforcement, including Police, Sheriff's, and the Highway Patrol
  • Casper Fire EMS and the other firefighters of our community
  • Nurses, doctors, paramedics and hospital workers who watch over the ill and injured every day, at all hours.
  • City workers, including the plow driver (who look like they may be busy with a Christmas Day storm), sanitation crews, street crews, and others on call for emergencies.
  • Newspaper carriers. It gets darn cold and snowy out there, and my paper is there in the doorstep. I appreciate that.
  • Retail workers. Whether by necessity or design, these folks are in the stores and at the counters to help us with the forgotten gallon of milk, the last cookie ingredient, to make sure we can fill up the tank for the trip, and to indulge our penchant for after-Christmas bargains.
  • Ranchers and farmers. Livestock don't observe the Holidays. At least the way we do.
  • Hospitality and Restaurant workers. They're giving Holiday travelers a safe place to stay, and something to eat. Food and shelter are very important, after all.
  • Journalists. Had to add that, since I've been there done that many a time.
